No trip to Bavaria is complete without experiencing the inspiration for the Disney Castle! Imagine seeing that magical castle, suddenly on the horizon, as we take a turn off a beautiful Bavarian mountain road. This memory is one of the first that immediately comes to mind when someone asks me "what was your first huge "wow" when you came to Germany?" I will share my personal knowledge of the area to customize the day around your own desires. And offer some special local gems that not many tourists ordinarily get to see. The day will involve some driving, so we can delve into the history of Germany, Bavaria and, especially, the Royal family, and King Ludwig II. His story is a real-life mystery, and kids, as well as adults, find it fascinating, just as I do. I will always have an abundance of stories to share as we experience the German "Autobahn" and travel through some quaint Bavarian villages to reach the castle itself! Please have good footwear as we will walk a lot, and have hiking opportunities.
I will pick you up at your Munich City hotel. - Once we arrive in Schwangau, we take a bus to the castle. Some walking is still involved before we reach the castle. You will go on a short (approx. 35 minutes) English tour of the castle (guided by mandatory Castle guides). The bus does not run regularly in winter, and walking is then necessary. Message me for more detail. We have a number of choices for the afternoon, after lunch. We can take a beautiful ride through the Bavarian countryside, and go to Oberammergau where we can experience the "Lüftmalerei" painted houses, and see the intricate hand-carved wooden figures. We can visit a stunning church, the Wies Church of the Meadows, a UNESCO heritage site and a pilgrimage church. We can visit the medieval village of Füssen. We can visit Linderhof and tour the Palace Gardens. All of this is not possible in a single day, and can be planned when we meet. We can also plan a "Kids Afternoon". Please ask me for details. Arrive back in Munich at around 5:30-6 pm
