Tokyo is an international city and the political, economic and cultural center of Japan where tradition and innovation coexist and co-prosper. Conde Nast Traveler, an American travel magazine, describes the attractions of Tokyo as follows in October, 2020: "A regular on our best cities list, Tokyo continues to thrill with its contradictions: ultra-modern, neon skyscrapers and tranquil temples, unmatchable street style and centuries-old etiquette. " As an experienced tour guide being with ToursByLocals for a decade conducting hundreds of private tours, I am happy to show you around this highly diverse Tokyo in an easy to understand way. Selected for Tokyo's tradition are Imperial Palace/Edo Castle(Palace uses the site of old Castle) where 5 emperors have lived since 1868 and 15 Tokugawa Shoguns lived from 1603 through 1867, Meiji Shinto Shrine, and Asakusa Buddhist Temple built in 628. Selected as the spots for Tokyo's innovation are Harajuku/Omote-sando fashion district, Shibuya Scramble Square and Ginza.
• 9:00 AM - Meet at your hotel in Tokyo • 9:45/10:00 AM - Imperial Palace Plaza/Nijubashi (double bridge), where I will brief you on Japanese history of 2000 years • 11:00 AM - Meiji Shinto Shrine • 12:00 PM - Harajuku/Omote-sando fashion district • 12:45 PM - Lunch at a Japanese soba noodle restaurant (closed on Sundays) • 13:45 PM - Shibuya scramble crossing • 14:30 PM - Ginza (Tokyo's most famous upscale shopping, dining and entertainment district) • 15:30 PM - Asakusa Sensoji Kannon Buddhist Temple, where I will tell you most Japanese use two religions: Shinto and Buddhism for different purposes • 17:00 PM - Back to your hotel. (Duration: 8 hours) The above itinerary is a standard one. You can customize it according to your wishes. Other popular sites in Tokyo would include Tsukiji Fish Market, Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, Akihabara (electronics and subculture center), Roppongi Hills (Tokyo City View on 54th floor), Tokyo Tower, and Odaiba Island (Panoramic view of Tokyo, Rainbow Bridge, etc.).
