Found 1976, thanks to research by Canadian scientist Fred Urquhart, the winter refuge of the monarch butterfly in central Mexico is a real wonder of nature. The butterflies that leave Canada & the United States mountain areas in the fall, come & hide in the woods of "El Rosario" sanctuary (Michoacan, Mexico), to hibernate from late November to February. Due to their sexual maturing in March, they reproduce a new generation of butterflies that will continue the millennial migration flight to North America; when the spring begins. In other words: This insect is able to fly 5 thousand kilometers away just to reach the winter home and survive, still going to the very same location from the last 10 thousand years ago? We will see millions of them!!! Note: If you are a larger group, don't hesitate to contact me for a new quotation. . . It's possible to customize the tour to more than 3 people.
After depart at 7:00 AM from Morelia, enjoy the scenic drive to beans, chickpeas, corn & winter wheat crops; as we do stops on the way and finally, up to the pine tree mountains to reach 3000 meters above sea level. Once there, the further we hike in the woods, the more monarchs we can see flying between trees and, sometimes around people! After this hike, the stop at the local kitchen to eat blue corn quesadillas sounds like heaven. The drive back to Morelia by the sunset will be the time to achieve all good memories and great photos taken this day. RESTRICTIONS TO VISITORS: No handicap people. Not for kids under 10 years. No pets. No drones. Not for people with medication to blood pressure, heartbeat fails or liver diseases.
