Guide #49239
If I told you I always wanted to be a guide, it would not be true. As a coal miner's daughter in a coal mine town in a period when Asturias wasn't a touristic place, guiding wasn't an option. I always wanted to work with people (as a teacher, hostess, actress, and psychologist), and at the end of my last high school year in 1989, I came across tourism by chance. By that time our Universities had Tourism degrees for students to work elsewhere. However, step by step we invented tourism in Asturias. Now I love my area even more because I'm part of its history. Actually, two articles of the law that regulates guiding in Asturias were suggested by me and I'm very proud of them. If I told you English is my 2nd language, it'd also not be true because we could only study French in primary school. So when I was 16 I decided to attend private lessons. Nobody studied languages "just for fun" in those days, not in my hometown, so the teacher was surprised by my reasons to study English: "to understand songs and to travel". By the time I started my tourism studies, those lessons were very useful but just the beginning. And yes, I traveled a bit and I'm even able to sing in English accompanied by my acoustic guitar in an amateur way, and usually guide English-speaking guests. Later I also learned Italian and German and recently I've started with Portuguese. If I told you I've been working as a guide all the time since I finished my studies in 1992, I'd lie again. The fact is that especially at the beginning, when tourism wasn't so important here, I also worked in a hotel, a museum, 4 tourism offices, and giving private language lessons. It's good to see tourists from the other side of the desk so I can better understand how things work. It helps me when guiding, which is what I really want to do for the rest of my professional life. Thanks for reading and considering my services! See you soon in the Principality of Asturias!
